In early May a stray shih-tzu was found wandering the parking lot at me work. Although he had a collar and leash that he was dragging around, he was in REALLY bad shape. His hair was extremely long, matted and muddy and was completely covering his eyes. . His ribs were prominent and he was very under-nourished. I put him in a box and took him to my local groomer, who cut his hair and cleaned him up. My vet was the next stop. It was determined that he was heartworm positive, and he had ear mites and that he was blind in one eye and nearly so in another. I took him home and we have been taking care of him. We had him neutered, got his heartworms gone ( He is on heartguard) and I the ear mites have been treated. He has medication to promote tearing for his eyes. The vet thinks he's 5-8 years old. He is now fat, dumb and happy.

Unfortunately, we have determined that he is really not a good fit for our family. m He is not good with children and will snap (and has bitten) at them if they bother him, he is not totally housebroken and needs someone to work with him marking. He has started chasing our cats all over the house. We our a large busy family, with 5 kids 2 dogs (not including the stray) and 4 cats. We constantly have children and friends and guest over to our house and we cannot have a dog that snaps.. That being said, he is very sweet and affectionate when he is being petted and loves to sit in laps or next to you on the sofa. He is always up for a belly rub. I think he could make a good pet fro the right person who has a heart for a special needs dog and will have a home with few distractions. If you are a home with no children or cats and can help him with his housetraining this would be a wonderful dog for you.
