| Sissy's
Mother is a coon hound, their Dad may be a red heeler mix. The
Mama dog was dropped off near our home wearing a collar but we could not
find her owner. We housed and fed her and discovered she was
pregnant. Judging by her age and appearance, this was her first
litter. She gave birth to 13 puppies and after a week, she had a
hard time producing the milk to feed them. I bottle fed these
puppies until they were big enough to lap up the milk from a bowl.
I have found homes for 6 puppies, but still have 7 puppies to place. Because of where I live, I cannot let the puppies run free because of other neighborhood dogs that chase cars and a neighbor who kills people pets who come on his property. All I have is a small pen to keep these growing puppies fenced in, but they do have a H&H utility building that has heat to sleep in. Apart from each other,
they are especially sweet, but are getting on each others nerves being
penned up in a small area and are quite unhappy. Because of the
cost, and the small place available to keep them, I have been given the
ultimatum that either I find a home quickly for them, or they are going
to the pound. I do not believe in taking an animal to a place
where they stand a good chance of being put down rather than find a
home. I met a woman who told me she volunteers at the Shelby
Humane Society that told me pups that will become big dogs are most
certainly put down. She said that was the same at most humane
society locations. |
